A heartbreaking update from the West Melbourne Police Department as they say a 14-year-old has died days after a hit-and-run left him severely injured. Police say 14-year-old Hunter Russey was taken off life support Saturday night, and the suspect in his death, Kavan Vishnubhai Patel, was rearrested on second degree murder charges. Patel is accused of chasing Russey in his car after a reported burglary at his business, hitting him, and then driving away.During his first hearing in front of a judge on the original charges of aggravated battery and leaving the scene of a crash ,the judge called the allegations disturbing.“The fact that the alleged victim is a juvenile, that’s something,” the judge said in court. Now, Patel is facing upgraded charges of second degree murder. Police say Hunter’s family has made the decision to donate his organs, so that he can help others. Patel is being in the Brevard County Jail without bond.
